ROOF EXTENSION

The roof extension is situated between two buildings with a very different architectural appearance. A historical building with classical architectural parts is located on one side and a prefab building with a utilitarian geometry is situated on the other side. The house, for which the roof extension is designed, lack any distinctive or original elements. The facade of this building is empty and drab. These mutual contrasts evoke questions if a new volume of the roof extension should be a transcription of the building´s, on which top the extension is situated, modesty or a reaction to the buildings in close proximity. The colour solution comes partly from the extension´s vicinity. Gray shades appear on the basic building and a similar light carmine colour can be found at the prefab loggias. In front of the windows there are suspended balconies in the community rooms. This exterior component is a mutation of the anthitetical elements appearing on both the adjacent buildings - the embedded loggias of the prefab building and an exserted window lining of the historical building. On the boundary-line of new and old, on the first floor of the roof extension, there is the most expressive part of the whole building. The element highlighting the presence of a new volume.
